Juniper Publishers — Rotten to the Core

This publisher stinks.

This is a renewed warning to all researchers to refrain from submitting any work to — or associating with — Juniper Publishers. Juniper is a deceptive publisher, a scam designed only to get money from honest researchers.

When it first launched, Juniper Publishers published 36 journals — now it has 48. Most of the journals cover broad topics in the biomedical sciences, but several of the journals target other fields, such as agriculture and engineering.

I first blogged about Juniper Publishers in September, 2015, soon after it launched. It has a presence on Academia.edu, and some of the fake personae it uses to spam and correspond have bogus profiles at LinkedIn, including this one for “Susan Susan” …

When the publisher first launched in 2015, it gave an Ontario, California address. Now it gives this one:

Fake headquarters.

This address matches an apartment or condo in Newbury Park, California, a Ventura County suburb of Los Angeles. The publisher deceptively uses this address to make it appear it’s based in North America when it’s really run out of South Asia somewhere. Its domain name registration data is blinded, typical of corrupt open-access publishers.

I don’t know who is behind Juniper Publishers but would like to.

This publisher is noteworthy for sending out illiterate spam emails, including the nonsense one reproduced in the appendix below. It says,

We turn to introduce the unique occasion of our Journal “Thanksgiving Day”, a former event, which is celebrated in the USA, for today’s introduction.

Juniper Publishers is a complete sham. I recommend: Do not agree to serve on its editorial boards, do not agree to do ad hoc peer reviews for the publisher, and do not submit any manuscripts to its journals.
