Meta junk.

I learned recently of the launch of Meta Research Press, a New Delhi-based publisher of 64 extremely low-quality, open-access journals. I’m told this new imprint is the effort of Research India Publications (RIP), a greedy and unprofessional publisher that has been on my list for some time.

If you need a good laugh, have a look at their FAQ page. There, you’ll see barely literate and blatantly false information presented in a question-and-answer format. Here are my two favorites:

[Q]. Whether MR Journals are indexed Journals or not?

[A]. MR Journals are widely indexed Journals. MR Journals published papers are indexed in world top indexing like NASA ads, Cross Ref, ArXiv, Google Scholar, Cabell’s Directory, EBSCO Host, Index Copernicus, ANED (American National Engineering Database), Ulrich Web and many more.

I think most of this information is completely false. I’d be surprised if any legitimate index would lower itself to index these awful journals.

[Q]. What is the Impact Factor of MR Journals?

[A]. The Impact factor for Meta Research Journals are 4.38

Here, we see that the publisher is so clueless, it thinks the impact factor is applied at the publisher level. This one is completely fake also.

Most of their 64 journals cover fields already covered by numerous other journals, journals that are much better managed than these.

To publish in one of the journals, you must surrender copyright to the publisher and then pay $150. Few of the journals have any editorial board members yet, but they are all accepting submissions. You don’t really need an editorial board when you’re not doing peer review anyway.

Like many open-access this one specializes in a very fast publishing process. The publisher boasts,

META RESEARCH PRESS is committed to speedy evaluation of manuscripts, and our record in this respect in recent years compares favorably with those of major competing publications. For most papers, reviewers are asked to return comments within 1 week; papers that call for particularly rapid assessment, owing to competition or other factors, can often be reviewed within 48 hours or less. Most papers are published online within 10 days of initial submission.

I’ve blogged about this publisher’s owner, Research India Publications, in the past. I strongly recommend that all researchers avoid any association with RIP or with Meta Research Press. They’re a complete joke.
